Russian minister criticises excessive Uefa fine for fans violence

Russia's sports minister Vitaly Mutko has criticised Uefa's punishment and 150,000 euros (£119,200) fine for their fans' Euro 2016 stadium violence as "excessive" but confirmed the nation will not appeal.
The Russian football union was punished by European football's governing body for the clashes at the end of Saturday evening's 1-1 draw with England at Marseille's Stade Velodrome.

The team has also been hit with a suspended disqualification, which will take effect if more stadium trouble emerges during the tournament.

The punishment is excessive, but we cannot influence it. The fine is enormous as the Russian Football Union is a non-commercial organisation. There is no sense in appealing.
