The Terminator icon says calmly: "Oh, he's going to charge us."
But
as the footage shows, the enormous animal slowly moves off the road as
the car starts its engine, before deciding to circle the tourists.
As the clip ends, the elephant starts running after the 4x4 as it pulls away quickly.
The video was uploaded to Arnie's Youtube page and has been watched nearly 80,000 times.
The Total Recall star said: "I couldn't have written this safari encounter better if it was a movie.
"I'm absolutely in awe of these beautiful, strong animals, even though some of us had to change our pants after this.
"We need to stop killing them - take a photo, not a shot.
"Would you rather be able to experience these creatures or a hunk of ivory? I thought so."
The 68-year-old was in South Africa promoting Arnold Classic Africa 2016. The multi-sport festival and expo took place in Johannesburg over the weekend.
