Spain
travel to France to defend their European crown with an embarrassment of
riches when it comes to top players usually taken with them but left behind this time.
Veteran coach Vicente del Bosque insisted he had no second thoughts over his 23-man squad this week despite excluding the likes of Saul Niguez, Isco and many more.
While
England were agonising over whether Andros Townsend and Danny
Drinkwater should have been dropped, Spain have given a summer off to a
whole squad of deserving candidates.
Their
strength in depth - particularly in the midfield - would have given Del
Bosque plenty of headaches before his high-profile exclusions.
Here, Sportsmail looks
at the incredible back-up side Spain sent on holiday, a group that
could almost compete for the European Championship on its own.
Spain’s excluded XI (4-2-3-1): Reina; Carvajal, J.Martinez, I. Martinez, Monreal; Gabi, Cazorla; Saul, Isco, Mata; Costa.
Other excluded squad members: Adrian, Albiol, Bernat, Nacho, Gaspar, Navas, Alcacer, Torres, Casilla, Roberto, Herrera, Vitolo.
