Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, has allayed fears that the team will be match rusty before the next 2018 World Cup qualifying match against Cameroon in August 2017 Rohr who gave an insight on how he plans to prepare his team before Nigeria’s back to back World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Cameroon next year insisted that the players will have enough time to prepare, adding that he will also use the opportunity of the 2019 AFCON qualifying matches which will also commence in March 2017 to prepare the players.
Nigeria currently lead group B of the CAF World Cup 2018 qualifying series, but failure to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations made fans to raise concerns over the fitness of the players ahead of the World Cup qualifiers in August 2017.
However, Rohr has played down such notion, saying the AFCON 2019 qualifiers which will take place in March next year will be a veritable test ground to help his team gel before the World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon.
He also noted that the friendly game against Egypt on January 9, 2017 in Dubai, will play a big part in the players that would be selected for the competitive games next year.
“We have a match with Egypt in Dubai for them to prepare for the AFCON,” he said,
