Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has defended Paul Pogba’s sluggish start to his second spell at Old Trafford.

Paul Pogba has not been so fantastic for Manchester United since he returned, The ‘Special One’ stated categorically that the world-record fee paid by United to get the Frenchman is not a big deal, Goal reports.

Manchester United finally signed Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba in a deal worth over £100m ($131m). The 23-year-old, who left United for £1.5m in 2012, returned for a fee that surpasses Gareth Bale’s £85m move to Real Madrid in 2013.

Pogba showed class on his debut game against Southampton, but has not been able to replicate such performance in recent games and fans have called for the head of the Frenchman .

But Mourinho says fans need to be patient with the star player, adding that Pogba had a little time to rest after Euro 2016.

“Pogba was in the Euro final, no pre-season, holidays. He had a very good impact in the first game, but it’s normal that after the first game he has a little decrease,” Mourinho started.

“But I’m full of trust with him because I know the player he is, I know he’s a very good guy with a lot of ambition so the form will come naturally and will come with the team. The team improves, Paul improves, so no problem.

“He can play where he was playing before in the Premier League, he can play where he did (against Feyenoord), there’s not a problem with his position,” added the Portuguese.

Recall that Pogba was a shadow of himself in United’s 1 – 2 home loss to Manchester City in the derby clash and did not do well in their Europa Cup loss to Feyernoord, but Mourinho insists Pogba will always play in the mid-field.

“He can play where he was playing before in the Premier League, he can play where he did (against Feyenoord), there’s not a problem with his position,” added the Portuguese.

“It depends on the situation. In the Premier League we were playing with Wayne Rooney as a number 10, and we played with Schneiderlin in front of the back four (against Feyenoord) and we gave Pogba more freedom to occupy other kind of spaces.”
