The FIFA Ballon D’or awards will no longer be after the agreement between FIFA and France football has ended, Goal understands.
Lionel Messi is the reigning Baloon D’or holder
The FIFA Ballon d’Or was introduced in 2010 as the governing body merged its yearly World Player of the Year award with France Football’s annual Ballon d’Or prize.
However, this year’s award format could be the last of its kind with France Football regaining control of the awards and moving the ceremony from Zurich, Goal.com reports.
FIFA’s World Player of the Year award would hence be returning with president Gianni Infantino and other officials planning a potential replacement ceremony.
As part of this, FIFA is said to be looking into moving the event around different cities each year, with London top choice to hold the first one.
