Tottenham Hotspur stops Chelsea's Winning Streak as Alli scores twice

In-form midfielder Dele Alli scored two near-identical headers as Tottenham Hotspur beat Chelsea 2-0 on Wednesday to ruin the Premier League leaders' hopes of a record 14th consecutive victory.

Chelsea were bidding to become the first team to win 14 successive games within the same English top-flight season, but Alli's goals, both set up by Christian Eriksen, brought them down to earth.

It gives the rest of the chasing pack - Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United - fresh hope that runaway leaders Chelsea can be caught.

Chelsea are now five points clear, having missed the chance to put an eight point gap between them and Liverpool while they also failed to set a new record of 14 straight wins.

It was a devastating blow for Antonio Conte, his first defeat since Chelsea lost at Arsenal on September 24.

But it also gave Tottenham some revenge after Chelsea ended their title hopes at Stamford Bridge last May.

Now Alli has got Tottenham believing they could do it this year with a brilliant victory in front of England boss Gareth Southgate at White Hart Lane.

Antonio Conte's Chelsea must content themselves with having equalled Arsenal's season record of 13 wins in a row from 2002 and they remain five points clear of second-place Liverpool.

But the end of their winning streak will give hope to their pursuers, not least Tottenham, who rose above Manchester City and Arsenal to third place in the table, seven points below the leaders.
