The head of the Russian ultra group blamed for violent attacks on British fans at Euro 2016 has been arrested in Moscow.

Alexander Shprygin, president of the All-Russian Supporters Association, was detained at a conference of the Russian Football Union.

He was deported but returned to France for Russia’s match against Wales. He was again asked to leave the country.

Vitaly Mutko, the new RFU head, said: “It looks like work is continuing in connection with events in France. The ARSA discredited itself. Almost all of its leadership have had problems with the law

“The ARSA got Russian football in serious trouble.”
The RFU banned the group but Mr Mutko said the decision was not linked to Shprygin’s arrest.
