Claudio Ranieri celebrated his first anniversary as Leicester City boss yesterday – fine-tuning the latest fighter jet to join his famous Royal Air Force (RAF) forward line.

The Foxes boss claims £16million record signing Ahmed Musa has same lightning speed which prompted him to nickname flying frontmen Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and Jeff Schluup his RAF last season.

“Musa can bring his amazing speed to the party,” said Ranieri after putting his summer signing from CSKA Moscow through his paces.

“I don’t know if he’s as quick as Jamie Vardy but he has lots of speed.

“It’s very important to have another airplane in our squad. Remember we are the RAF and now we’ve signed another one of them!”

To call Musa the new Jamie Vardy is a little premature but there are plenty of similarities between him and the City and England striker.

Musa is rapid. As quick, if not quicker, than Vardy. He is lethal on the shoulder of the last defender and, in a foot race, there is only one winner.

The CSKA front man is confident enough to drive straight at defenders too with enough close control to weave in and out of challenges to confuse as well as outstrip opponents.

Musa is a decent finisher too, but is still a little raw. He scored 18 goals with six assists in 44 appearances across all competitions as CSKA secured their sixth Russian Premier League title.

Musa also has Champions League experience. He scored in CSKA's victory over PSV Eindhoven in their Champions League campaign, while twice playing against Manchester United in the group stages.
