Police in Fort Myers, Florida, confirmed that a shooting outside a local nightclub has left two dead and at least 14 injured.
The incident occurred at the car park of the Club Blu Bar and Grill, which hosted an event for teenagers, the TV channel said. A suspect was detained.

Police are "actively canvassing the area looking for other persons who may be involved in this incident," NBC 2 quoted the Ford Myers police department as saying.

Syreeta Gary disclosed that her daughter and a friend had to run from the gunman. Gary’s daughter wasn’t shot, but her friend was shot in the leg and had to be taken to a hospital. She’s expected to survive her wounds.

One woman told WTSP-TV that she heard about 30 gunshots. Other witnesses described the scene as a “madhouse.”

“It was a mad house people were running everywhere. All people were saying was their friends’ names to see if they’re okay, a lot of phone calls to parents,” she said. “But it was one of the scariest sights to just see people come pouring out like that.”

The tragedy in Fort Myers comes a month after the deadliest mass shooting in US history when a gunman killed 49 people in a nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
