Lewis Hamilton seems to own the Canadian Grand Prix. The Briton powered his Mercedes AMG to the checkered flag Sunday, holding off Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari over the final 32 laps to claim the race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for a second year in a row and the fifth time overall.
Opting to make one pit stop while Vettel made two proved to be the difference as Hamilton edged Vettel by five seconds in the 70-lap race.
“(Vettel) was so quick and it’s great to see (Ferrari) are giving us a run for our money,” said Hamilton. “I just happened to be on a one-stop strategy.”

After the race, Hamilton dedicated the win to Muhammad Ali. F1’s only black driver called the boxing great who died last week a boyhood hero and a role model.
“The last 15 laps all I could think of was him and the Rumble in the Jungle,” said Hamilton. “It was really, really weird. I was driving and just thinking of him, and maybe he would be watching the race.”
